Sunshine, Lollipops, Rainbows, Prostitutes and Secret Service Ghost Protocol
Before I start this “spicy” reflection, let me share some good articles:
This week, I’m fascinated with the Secret Service agents in Columbia. They have apparently been seeing prostitutes in Columbia. I would guess that someone affiliated with the Republican circuit probably dug this tidbit up. Here I stand – a non-partisan person – who must either choose Obama or Romney this fall.
But are the Secret Service agents breaking any laws? First of all, we need to see if they are breaking Colombian law. Here’s where we consult a couple of Wiki articles:
“Prostitution in Colombia is legal as long as it is done in designated ‘tolerance zones’.”
If we read more of the article, it mentions the government deplores child prostitution – which it should. But assume the agents were engaging adult prostitutes and staying within designated “tolerance zones” – are they breaking any laws?
Perhaps they are breaking US laws that are related to government service – I don’t know. I’ll wait until the news media informs me.
Please don’t look into whether the military is involved or not.
Now time for a story – believe it or not!
Back in the early 70’s, my female cousin asked me to drive her to visit her husband. She would pay all expenses. Here husband was in basic training at some US army base (note: I will keep the location a secret). I also had a male college friend join me.
I was naive at the time. We arrived at the army base and I met my cousin’s husband. I asked a local army recruit where my college friend and I could have some fun. He directed me towards a local pool hall.
My college friend and I went to pay a daytime visit. When we got there, all I saw inside were some women. One older female asked what we wanted. I mentioned we wanted to play a game of pool.
This apparently shocked the “staff”. We looked at the only pool table and the pool queues had cobwebs – no fooling. We proceeded to play a game at the only pool table.
A couple women from the pool hall came over to talk with us. They asked us questions like where we were from and what we majored in. One women responded that she majored in men in college. We shortly excused ourselves and said we would visit later. We just wanted to get out.
Outside we witnessed a police car driving some women to the pool hall. And when we drove by at night, it looked like the whole army base was there.
This was during the early seventies folks. Can’t say the state of things today. I’ll bet they haven’t changed much.
Let me make my own position clear. I object to prostitution on moral (i.e religious) grounds. But I know that stamping it out is like the efforts in prohibition. If something isn’t there for all to see, then folks like our modern day Al Capones enter the picture.
Not sure what will become of the Secret Service members. But if folks get fired for what they say on social networks these days, I don’t see a bright future for the Secret Service members. So Romney will say, “look at what is happening on the Democratic watch.” Obama will say, “see how fast I cleaned up this problem and how I stand for everything clean and good?”
Meanwhile, the Secret Service members will help contribute to the high unemployment rate.
And military involvement? Didn’t the commanders in the movie Jarhead (see Wiki at Jarhead) command the marines to fantasize about sexual partners?
